Peru Luxury Tour– 9 Days/8 Nights

Itinerary

Day 1: ARRIVAL TO LIMA

Arrive at Lima.
Accommodations at the Miraflores Park Hotel.

Day 2: COLONIAL LIMA AND THE LARCO MUSEUM

In the morning, you will take an excursion to the historic center of Lima, “the City of the Kings” and UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. You will stop at the Main Square and visit its principal landmarks. After that, it’s off to the Santo Domingo Convent, a 16th century architectural masterpiece. Later, you will continue the tour to the city’s modern sectors: the exclusive district of San Isidro, Lima’s new financial center, and Miraflores, with a stop at the “Parque del Amor” (a sort of lover’s lane) and its incredible view of the Pacific Ocean. Next stop is the Larco Museum, whose specially selected private collection shows more than 3000 years of Pre-Columbian history. The day ends with a dinner of Peruvian flavors at the Huaca Pucllana Restaurant, located next to the archeological complex of the same name.

Optional: Visit the Casa Aliaga, one of the few Colonial mansions where descendants, 16 generations worth, of the original family have lived, and still do so. Plans for this evening include a candlelight dinner in an 18th century dining room (10 person group minimum).

Day 3: ARRIVAL TO CUSCO – SACRED VALLEY

Depart for Cusco. After arriving in the city, we will transfer you to the friendly and elegant Wayra Ranch in the country, where you will enjoy the most exquisite flavors of the Andes and have the chance to learn more about our culture by being part of a horse show featuring Peruvian paso horses that will surprise you by their light gait and remarkable grace.

Day 4: PISAC MARKET – PICNIC – OLLANTAYTAMBO

Today begins your journey through the Sacred Valley of the Incas. First stop is the Pisac Market, in which you will see the truest reflection of our Andean roots. Teeming with colors and tradition, it has turned into the place to be for purchasing handicrafts, silver jewelry, alpaca clothing and accessories, and locally made pottery. Afterwards, you will make a stop at Ollantaytambo, a typical small town in the Andes that has hardly changed since the time of the Incas, boasting narrow streets and canals of rushing fresh water. Another attraction is the Ollantaytambo Fortress, an archeological complex with terraced hillsides and stone walls carved only as the Incas could. Lastly, if you so choose, you can visit the spa for some relaxation time.

Day 5: VISIT TO MACHU PICCHU VIA THE TRAIN (HIRAM BINGHAM)

Today is a special day: you will visit one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and a World Cultural Heritage Site: the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu. You will ride the Hiram Bingham to the archeological site, a train that the prestigious tourism magazine Condé Nast Traveller calls the best in the world. Its service, comfort, luxury, and ambience are first rate: a gourmet menu inspired by Peruvian flavors, elegant berths, and shows featuring local dances. The long train ride ends at the town of Aguas Calientes, where you will disembark and ascend by bus to Machu Picchu. Once there, you will explore the site and marvel at its splendor. After the tour, you will enjoy “Tea Time” in the Sanctuary Lodge, a unique hotel right next to the ancient outpost, and then board the bus that takes you to the train station at Aguas Calientes and the train waiting to take you back to Cusco.

Day 6: HISTORIC CITY CENTER OF CUSCO - DINNER IN THE MUSEUM OF PRE-COLUMBIAN ART

You will visit the city of Cusco, also known as the Imperial City, walking through its streets, inundated with culture and tradition, that have become a meeting place for people of every nation. The tour encompasses the Koricancha, the Cathedral, the Church of the Compañia de Jesus (Society of Christ) as well as other Colonial period buildings. Following that will be a stop at the Sacsayhuaman Fortress built by the Incas. Then, it is off to see the nearby Qenko, Puca-Pucara, and Tambomachay archeological sites. You will also stop at a place called the Inka’s Expression, a living art gallery where you will learn a little about the work of local artisans. Lastly, you will enjoy a gourmet dinner in the Pre-Columbian Art Museum, something right out of a dream and an experience you will never forget.

Day 7: PUERTO MALDONADO - LAND AND RIVER EXCURSION IN THE TAMBOPATA NATIONAL RESERVE

Transfer to Puerto Maldonado, capital of Peruvian biodiversity. You will right away board a comfortable boat and head off on the Madre de Dios River in the direction of the Tambopata National Reserve, one of the natural areas with the greatest level of biodiversity on the planet. The first place you will stop at is the Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica Lodge, a deluxe oasis in the midst of the Peruvian Amazon. Next, you will go on a guided tour of the lodge’s trail system, perfect for observing the wildlife, stretching the legs, and breathing in clean air. Later on, you will take a boat ride, on which you will witness a wonder of nature: the spellbinding transformation from day to night in the Amazon rainforest.

Day 8: LAKE SANDOVAL – CANOPY WALKWAY – ANACONDA TRAIL

Today, you will enjoy nature to the max. First will be a boat ride to one of the best preserved locations in the Tambopata National Reserve: Lake Sandoval, where you will paddle around in a canoe, surrounded by the sounds of nature. Afterwards, you return to the lodge and will experience the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, enjoying the awesome landscape of the jungle seen from the tree tops. With the Canopy Walkway behind you, another incredible experience awaits: the Anaconda Trail, 200 meters of wooden bridges set above the jungle swamps.

Day 9: BUTTERFLY HOUSE AND RETURN TO LIMA

After breakfast, you will return to Puerto Maldonado by boat and, once there, visit the Inkaterra Butterfly House, which houses the greatest number of butterfly species in the world. Then, at the scheduled time, you will return to Lima.

Itinerary

Day 1: LIMA – ARRIVAL

Upon arrival, reception and transfer to the hotel for accommodation.

Day 2: LIMA – CITY TOUR - PERUVIAN PASO HORSE EXHIBITION

Visit to Colonial and Contemporary Lima. Then, private exhibition of Peruvian paso horses and typical lunch in a hacienda near to the Pachacamac ruins.

Day 3: LIMA/CUSCO – DOWNTOWN

Departure to Cusco. Arrival and transfer to the hotel for acclimatization. In the afternoon, visit the Cathedral, Koricancha and Sacsayhuaman.

Day 4: CUSCO – SACRED VALLEY

A mélange of traditions, breathtaking Inca sites and colorful markets. Visit to Ollantaytambo and Pisac Market. Lunch at a private hacienda house. Check with us for an optional stay at hotels in the area.

Day 5: CUSCO – MACHU PICCHU

Excursion by train to the lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu. Buffet lunch and return in the afternoon. Optional stay in the area.

Day 6: CUSCO/LIMA – DEPARTURE

At the fixed time, transfer to the airport for your international departure.
